This page aims to answer members’ most common questions about sharing and editing deals:
If this page doesn’t answer your question, please feel free to ask your question to other members in the Forum.
justlooking covers Deals and Vouchers, and generally both are referred to as deals. By default both categories are included in all the deal listing pages, although you can filter the results to show only one category. How to…
In the deal listings you can tell the difference between a Deal and a Voucher by the style of the summary presentation. Deals will just have a title and short description, whereas a Voucher will have a large grey box prominently displaying the Voucher code following the title.
You can also filter results using the filter panel on the lift
Great priced products or services. Typically, the best price you will find in your area or region. Although it is also important to consider store and product, as price alone does not necessarily make a deal! There are many types of 'deals' which include:
A 'voucher' typically gives an additional discount on products and services, although sometimes it can be setup so that you receive something 'extra' for free/discounted price. Vouchers are entered at the time of checking out and the final price you see should reflect the code entered. An example would be 'an extra 10% off this month when you enter code MARCHDEAL at checkout'.
While a deal is usually for a specific product, vouchers often apply at the store level to a wide range of products.
Any member can post deals. In fact, the whole purpose of justlooking is for members to echo great deals that are then available to the justlooking community to view, discuss and vote on. If you are an advertiser or merchant, we would ask you to contact us first as otherwise we may treat any posts you make as spam. justlooking is a website for publishing the best deals out there and not a website for businesses to promote themselves unless you truly do have the best deal, in which case contact us. Any abuse in placing ads, such as self-promotion, may result in a ban.
Found a great deal? Share it with the community! How to…
Then share it by clicking 'Share a Deal'.
You’ll need to be logged in to share a deal. It takes less than a minute to set up an account!
After clicking “Share a deal” from the main screen, there are 3 simple steps:How to…
Step 1: Choose the type of deal you are submitting. We have three types: i) Deals found online, ii) Deals found in stores where you have to physically visit and iii) vouchers for at checkout discounts.
Step 2: Fill in the fields to describe the deal including, where appropriate and adding a URL link to the deal if it is an online deal. The URL is the link to the deal on a vendor’s website. It is displayed at the top of your browser, and can be copied and pasted into justlooking.
Step 3: A picture is worth a thousand words. Add an image by either uploading a picture file or putting in a link to an online image. You can often get image links from online stores by right clicking on their picture of a product and selecting “Copy image address” in your browser. Don't worry if this does not work - we have lots of technically minded members who will step in and add a picture to your deal if you are struggling.
The Share Deal form also allows you to do some nifty additional things, but these are completely optional:
Deals may have Vouchers linked to them which can be used to compliment the purchase of a Deal thereby giving you an even bigger bargain. Because Vouchers typically link to a Store rather than just an individual product, these are posted separately (see next section). All Vouchers related to the same Store as the Deal will show up on the View Deal Details page. You can also include details about how to use a specific voucher in your deal description.
The process for sharing a Voucher is very similar to sharing a Deal. Vouchers typically apply to multiple products and so are linked to a Store rather than an individual deal. How to…
After clicking ‘Share a Deal’ on the main page (see above) simply select Voucher and then follow the process as above. Vouchers require a link to the Store, rather than to a specific product.
In most cases deals shared by members will instantly be made available to all users on the site.
However in a few cases deals are queued for review by a moderator:
justlooking's strength is that it is a community driven site, with members encouraged to contribute, edit and maintain up-to-date content. Members with sufficient status can edit a deal’s details to make the listing more complete and accurate. To say thank you to those improving justlooking's content, members earn a small number of Reputation Points for each deal they edit.
Reasons for editing a deal include:
On the View Deal Details page there is an “edit” option at the bottom of the description.
Moderators also have access to a Deal Admin view which can be accessed via My Profile Manage Deals. Deal Admin allows for advanced filtering of deals, and also provides access to Queued deals (see “When will my deal appear on the site?” above).
If a deal’s details have edited after it has been posted, details of the most recent editor are shown on the View Deal Details page.
Expired deals are those where members can no longer purchase the product or service at the price highlighted in the posting. Members can help the community by flagging deals as expired. Clicking on the “EXPIRE” link as shown below is registered as a vote to expire the deal. If this is done by a Contributor or Moderator member deals will be instantly expired. It will require several expiry votes from regular members to mark a deal as expired. How to…
When you find this type of deal please click on the ‘EXPIRE’ link which will then start the process of changing the status of the deal to be ‘expired’ so that it is no longer picked up in standard searches.
If you believe a deal has been incorrectly expired please click on the 'Unexpire Deal' link which will appear in the same place as ‘EXPIRE’
Members can help the community by flagging deals as Duplicates or Spam. For simplicity, justlooking uses the same functionality to flag both potential Duplicate and potential Spam deals.
Duplicates are defined as the same deal, at the same price, from the same store, posted within seven days. Duplicates should not be posted and will be removed in order to reduce clutter and ensure that the originating poster receives their full allocation of Reputation Points that they deserve for their efforts in first finding and posting the deal.
Spam is defined as either (i) self-promotion of products or advertisements that are not genuinely best priced deals, or (ii) posting of inappropriate deals which do not comply with justlooking rules and guidelines (for example, illegal products). In general it is not expected that advertisers or merchants will post deals directly: justlooking is a website for publishing the best deals out there and not a website for businesses to promote themselves.
Clicking on the "SPAM/DUPLICATE" link as shown below is registered as a vote to flag the deal. If this is done by a Contributor or Moderator member deals will be instantly flagged and removed from the main listings. It will require several votes from regular members to flag a deal as a Duplicate or Spam. Deals flagged in this manner will be independently reviewed to confirm the classification and to check for any patterns of abuse. How to…
To flag a deal, click on the SPAM/DUPLICATE link on the View Deal Details page. This will register your vote and start the process of removing the deal.
Welcome! In preparation for full launch from September we need your help testing and calibrating justlooking. If you see any gremlins, areas we can improve upon or would like to be part of justlooking please let us know.
During this period profit sharing will not be in operation. However, all other aspects of the site will be fully working. This means you will be able to find, share, vote and discuss great deals and also generate reputation points to qualify as a contributor.
From September 50% of profits will be shared with contributors and distributed based on community activity and popularity of deals posted.
